RE:      Media Report on 2007-2008 “LAEDC Mid-Year Economic Forecast”  



Below is a summary of the various media outreach activities MAYO Communications conducted to promote the “2007-2008 LAEDC Mid-Year Economic Forecast,” and event July 18, 2005, at the Los Angeles Marriott, in downtown Los Angeles. Despite other study releases and competing breaking news coverage of wildfires, grocery and port labor talks, MAYO Communications obtained new record media coverage for LAEDC. About a dozen media attended the event, and at least two newspapers plan to do stories on Sunday. 


Media coverage included:

·Associated Press took the housing angles and plans to do the cable and film production angle in a story later that will run in many California newspapers. It was published on the wire of AP member newspapers and websites statewide that pay for the AP headline and story content, including KTLA-TV Ch. 5 (owned by Tribune Co.)KCBS TV/KCAL TV and KNX (Viacom).
· United Press International (UPI)’so Pat Nason took the Hollywood labor angle ran a short story on the forecast. Through its partners and clients, UPI wire reaches more two-three million readers.
· Los Angeles Times Business Writer Andrea Chang conducted interviews with Economist Jack Kyser, and staff in advance of the event. The story was published prominently in the Business section of the Los Angeles Times and on the website www.LATimes.com. Sales Rep. Julie Makim also attended. Business Writer Ron White called for port figures for another story the next day. Circ. 902164
· Los Angeles Daily News Business Greg Wilcox conducted interviews with LAEDC staff and Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Jack Kyser to write an advanced front page story business. It was published in several places in the Los Angeles newspaper group papers. Kevin Smith, Los Angeles Newspaper Group also did a separate story that ran in the member papers in SGV. Circ.:178404
Sunday Edition featured Lancaster and Santa Clarita by another writer.

· Hollywood Reporter – interviewed Jack Kyser on the movie production and TV studios section pg. 56 on Hollywood, the story landing on the front page. Circ. 12990
· Backstage is Hollywood Reporter -terviewed Jack Kyer on the potential WGA strike and the economic impact mentioned in the Mid_Year Report. Cir.10,000
· Daily Variety Magazine –Dave Mc Nary, interviewed Jack Kyser, too and the story appeared on the day of the presentation focusing on TV production and union talks and jobs. Circ. 35037

· City News Wire Services published the advisories, news release and other facts and tidbits from the forecast several times for TV, radio and newspaper members. They also placed the event on the CNS budget on week in advance.
· San Jose Mercury News ran the AP story 7-18-2005 focusing on jobs. Circ. 263067
· Monterey Herald and San Luis Obispo also ran the AP story.
· Contra Costa Times also ran the AP story focusing on jobs. Circ.:182647
· Santa Clarita Daily News took the jobs angles, part of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. Received a call the next day for an Antelope Valley angle and another story for Sunday edition.
· Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News wire service ran housing and labor items.
· Orange County Register interviewed Jack Kyser and LAEDC staff for a story in the OCR business section. The Orange County Register is the largest of 28 daily newspapers operated by Freedom Communications, Inc. The Register also publishes 23 weekly newspapers, including the Spanish-language newspaper, Excelsior, three magazines, and myOC.com, the local Orange County internet Web portal.  Orange County Register Circ.: 303418
·California Apparel News attended and plans to publish a story. Writer Deborah Belgum interview Jack Kyser and panelists.
· LA Business Journal ran a separate story on its website breaking news daily and one is planned for next week in the paper. The weekly has a circulation ranges from 20 – 50K mostly business executives and business readership.
· Ventura County Star interviewed Jack Kyser on housing Ventura County Star daily newspaper is printed mornings, Saturday and Sunday. Circulation: 94,665. Sunday: 102,821.
· San Gabriel Valley Tribune’s published a story today on the front page of the business section and on the morning of the release. SGV is belongs to the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. Circ.: 48835
· The Press Enterprise interviewed Jack Kyser for the embargoed story and published the story on the day after the July 18th release.
· Pasadena Star News – interview LAEDC staff and Jack Kyser the day before and published a story today on the front page of the business section and on the morning of the release. The Star belongs to the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. Circ.: 48835
· The Daily Inland Bulletin interviewed Jack Kyser for the embargoed story and published the story on the day after the release. It was also published on its web site.
· Antelope Valley Press called for the embargoed story and published the story on the morning of July 19, 2007. They focused on housing and aerospace. It was also published on its web site. Circ.:34916
· Cal-Trade ran a page story and photo of Jack Kyser in their magazine and website.
· California Apparel News interviewed Jack Kyser in advance of the Forecast for a special feature on manufacturing and jobs. Circ.:11642
· The Korean News- wrote a story in advance for its newspaper that has a circulation of more than two million in Los Angeles County, not counting the newspaper website.  MAYO provided images of Jack Kyser and others for the newspaper.
· LA Opinion, Business Reporter called the day before the presentation and Forecast release and interviewed Jack Kyser, the story appeared the next day in the nation’s most influential Spanish newspaper. Circulation is 20,000 in Los Angeles Metro area, 100K+ nationally counting its website and distribution.· China Daily News Reporter Sandy Chen interview staff and Jack Kyser for a story on China and ports impact. Circulation is several million globally.
· Sing Tao Newspapers (LA), Ltd.  Reporter Nicole Lei interviewed Jack Kyser for its publication, which has a circulation of 30,000 and is owned by Sing Tao - newspaper in Hong Kong, China at MondoTimes.com
· Crenshaw Newspaper attended and interviewed various business attendees. Story pending.
· Taiwan Daily’s Kevin Liu Also attended and interview the panelists for a mostly trade   
   and ports related story. Circulation (millions including overseas)
· CNN Headline News Tracy Young attended the event (2nd year in a row, too) running the story on various segments.
·KTLA-TV ran advance stories on its morning news, and sent Reporter Jaime Chambers and a crew for a pkg story on the 10 PM news.
·KNBC-TV interviewed Jack Kyser and ran an early morning pkg, and sent a photographer to capture video for in studio voiceovers on the evening news.
·KTLA also had a crew on hand for a 60th anniversary documentary.
·TV 36 The City of LA cable program also plans to run the whole program
·KTTV-TV Fox News and UPN TV 13 News ran a voiceover, likely rewritten from the City News Service stories they subscribe to, using file footage of ports.
·Telemundo Network KVEA-TV 52 sent a photographer to the hotel event, who interviewed Eduardo Martinez for an evening news story.
·KFWB 980 News conducted interviews with Jack Kyser in advance of the event, the stories ran on the morning of the Forecast release. The story was also placed on the KFWB website at: www.kfwb.com. KFWB 980 AM is the number one all news radio station, and has three million listeners during the noon hour. It is owned by Viacom/CBS.
·KNX News Host Frank Mottek moderated the Panel, his producer later interview Bill Allen, Nancy Sidhu and Jack Kyser, for the KNX Business Hour, which is a huge business audience estimated at 3 million during drive time afternoons. The stories aired all afternoon during regular newscasts, too, and the next morning.
·KNX also sent reporter Alex Munster for extra stories in the morning and afternoons.  
·KPCC 89.3 FM News Interviewed Jack Kyser live during a break at the hotel in the morning and air snippets of the interview in the afternoon. KPCC is the flagship station of Southern California Public Radio. It airs all of the signature public radio news and talk programs, along with locally produced ones and has a good following. ·California Report (30 PBS radio stations statewide) ran the story on the morning of the embargoed Forecast and event. (listenership – several million)
·KCRW 89.9 FM morning news host interviewed staff and Jack Kyser the day before the event.
·KUTY 1470 Santa Clarita Newstalk Radio interview Jack Kyser and staff and ran the story on the morning of the event.
 
MAYO Communications will continue to monitor other media hits over the next few week. Congratulations on another record media coverage and successful event. Great work team!
