Media Report on “2006-2007
LAEDC Mid-Year Forecast”
Below
is a summary of the various media outreach activities MAYO Communications
conducted to promote the LAEDC “2006-2007 LAEDC Mid-Year Forecast,”
and the media activities performed for this campaign leading up to the
event on July 12, 2006,
when the report was released to the public and media. 15 members of the media
attended the event (some came, event though the story air or was published
in their paper.) Despite the competing 40,000+ acre wildfire in Yucca
Valley, and other breaking news
our media outreach efforts set new records again, and garnered new media interest,
too. Most of the articles have been sent along and we’ll continue to monitor
upcoming hits.
Media
coverage included:
- Los Angeles Times conducted interviews
with Economist Jack Kyser and LAEDC staff in advance of the event. The story
was published in the Business section of the Los Angeles Times and on the
website www.LATimes.com. The LAT Editorial
Section also sent a writer to attend the event. Richard Verrier, Hollywood Reporter, LAT also called and interviewed
Jack for a story later. And well-known Los Angeles Times Economic
Columnist/Writer Jim Flanigan attended the event. Flanigan is the
recipient of many awards, among them, the Los Angeles Times Editorial Awards
for Analysis or Explanatory Journalism, World Economic Crisis and others.
- Los Angeles
News Paper Group (Daily News, Long Beach Press Telegram, Riverside Press
Enterprise, The Daily Inland Bulletin
and other business editors conducted
interviews with staff and Jack Kyser to write an advanced story for the
Los Angeles Newspaper Group. The story was published on July 12th.
- Los Angeles
Business Journal conducted interviews with staff and Jack Kyser to write
an advanced story for the LABJ’s
website issue of Wed, July 12th. The story was published for
the embargoed date. The morning of the release, it was also published in
the SFBJ publication.
- Reuters, San
Francisco called several times, and plans to do a story later with
Jack Kyser on the Forecast.
- City News Service
– Wrote and distributed to its
media members in SoCal overnight, and it should appear in local papers and
websites over the next week based on the news release provided. The event
and story also appeared several times on the CNS budget and was updated
periodically with the link to the forecast on the day of the embargo.
- Associated Press
Alex Veiga plans to include the forecast info the next time
he does a story on Hollywood,
he had three running on the wire on the day of the embargo event. He will
be calling Jack Kyser next week.
- MovieWeb.com
Ran a short piece on Hollywood angle talking about
piracy and the DA cracking down in DVD circles.
- The
Hollywood Reporter also interviewed Jack Kyser and it was picked
up by several ET trades including sister pub. Backstage.
- Backstage.com
- The Forecast story was published on the day
of the embargo.
- Los Angeles Downtown News
– Editor
Jon Regardi ran a story in advance of the event and plans to interview Jack
on future articles also impacting downtown forecast. Downtown News also sent a reporter
to cover the event for follow-up stories.
- Los Angeles
Daily News published a story on the front page of the paper on the morning of
the embargo (“Best Forecast in
Six Years”) also ran a DVD story on the business section front
page using our data.
- San Diego Union Tribune
– Interviewed Jack Kyser and used the info in an editorial on the day
of the embargo.
- North County
News interviewed Jack Kyser and ran the story on the day of the embargo.
- Orange County Register – interviewed Jack Kyser, and
published the story on July 12th.
- San Gabriel Valley Tribune ran
the embargoed story. SGV is part of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
- Daily Breeze
published a story after interview Jack Kyser on the day of the embargo.
- Antelope Valley Press published
a story on the day of the event. Additionally sent another report to cover
it for a weekend story or story to be published next week.
- Pasadena Star News- published
a story from the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
- Ventura County
Star got a late start, but plans to run the story over the weekend. Ventura County Star daily
newspaper is printed mornings, Saturday and Sunday. Circulation: 94,665.
Sunday: 102,821.
- The Riverside
Press ran the interview of Jack Kyser for the embargoed story
and published the story on the day of the event July 12th. Also
published on its website.
- San Bernadino
Sun did
an interview with Jack Kyser for the embargoed story and
published the story on the day of the event July 12th. Also published
on its website.
- The Daily Inland
Bulletin also ran a Jack Kyser interviewed on July 12th
and they also published it on its web site.
- California Real Estate
Journal’s Keeley Webster attended the event and plans to run a story soon.
- Women’s
Wear Daily attended and plans to publish a story later.
- Planning Report
– Reporter Josh Stevens attended and plans to write a story on the Forecast.

KFWB 980 News AM conducted an interview with Jack Kyser the day before the
event and the embargoed story aired on the morning of July 12th
and on the KFWB Business Hour. The
story was also placed on the KFWB website at: www.kfwb.com.

KNX News (Business hour
3 million listeners) interviewed Economist
Jack Kyser for stories that aired the morning of the embargo on KNX and the KNX Business Hour. Also appeared on the KNX website.

KPCC (NPR Pasadena) ran advanced stories the morning of event on the news
and sent a reporter to cover and broadcast live, quotes and interviews from
the event at the Marriott.
- KFI 640 AM News
ran the CNS story that ran on the wires overnight.
- KNBC-TV (NBC owned & Operated) ran the CNS news, too.
- KCBS-TV KCALTV-9
also ran the CNS news, too.
- KTLA-TV’s sent a crew interview Bill
Allen and Jack Kyser and ran a pkg on the 10 pm news using movie b-roll and
taking the Hollywood angle.
- KPBS
(NPR) interviewed Jack Kyser and ran the stories and posted the
audio on its website. KPBS is a broadcast service of San
Diego State University.
- CNN/Comcast attended event
and they do a show on cable each week. Jack Kyser will be going to the studio to
talk about the “Forecast.”
- LA Opinion Business attended and talked to Bill Allen and interviewed
Jack Kyser. The story was published July 12th.It was also on its website.
- U.S. Japan Weekly,
Inc., is based in NY with
a circulation of 41,000. It is distributed throughout the U.S. and Japan.
- Korean
Radio Network (KBS LA) Yun Lee interviewed Jack Kyser after the
event for its newscasts.
- Chinese
Daily News (Sandy Chen) attended the event and plans to published
a story this week with photos.
