 Media Hits “2004 International Trade Trends Report."

Below is a summary of the various media outreach activities MAYO Communications conducted to promote the LAEDC "2004 International Trade Trends Study" and the media buzz MAYO created for the news conference and embargoed report on May 5, 2005.


Media coverage included: 

  • Los Angeles Times Business Reporter Ron White conducted interviews with Economist Jack Kyser, and participants on of the day the event. The story was published on the front page of the business section of the Los Angeles Times and on the website www.LATimes.com two different times with colorful photos.
  • Associated Press Business Writer Alex Veiga interviewed Secretary Sunne-Wright McPeak, CABTA, Chief Economist and Vice President Jack Kyser for a national story that ran on its newspaper and broadcast wires circuit on the afternoon of May 5th, the day of the event. The stories will continue to appear in various newspapers and news websites for the next few days.
  • Los Angeles Daily News Business Editor Greg Wilcox conducted interviews with LAEDC staff and Vice President and Chief Economist Jack Kyser to write an advanced story for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. The front-page business section story was published on May 5, 2004, morning of the event. It was prominently displayed with two color photos of the ports and rail yards. The Daily News owns The Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which has a circulation of more than one million (eight newspaper members.
  • Miami Herald, Los Angeles Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News ran a story business editor Gregory J. Wilcox, Daily News, who wrote a separate story that was published nationally May 5th. " Sarasota Times, Sarasota, Fl ran the story in its business section. It was the story by business editor Alex Veiga, which ran nationally in numerous newspapers and websites.
  • City News Wire Services in LA published the advisories, news releases and other collateral we faxed and emailed to them. The news alerts resulted in advance event posting on the CNS Budget and the postings of our news release materials on the wire service the morning of the event, too.
  • Ventura County Star's Business Writer Deborah Crowe interviewed Jack Kyser on less cargo moving through Hueneme for the embargoed story and published it the morning of the event. Ventura County Star daily newspaper is printed mornings, Saturday and Sunday. Circulation: 94,665. Sunday: 102,821.
  • Antelope Valley Press Editor Ann Wishart interviewed Jack Kyser for the embargoed story and published the story on the morning of the event (May5, 2004). It was also published on its web site.
  • North County Times interviewed Jack Kyser and staff in advance for a story to appear May 5th on the day of event in print and on the website. " San Gabriel Valley Tribune's ran the embargoed story of Greg Wilcox the morning of the event. SGV is part of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
  • The Press Enterprise interviewed Jack Kyser for the embargoed story and published the story on the morning of the event (May 5th.).
  • CNN Reporter Jim Roope interviewed Chief Economist Jack Kyser about the Trade study, event and infrastructure issues and others. Stories aired on the CNN radio station members after midnight on May 5th. CNN is the largest radio network reaches millions worldwide.
  • United Press International (UPI) Hil Anderson did the story from our news release out of the LA Bureau. UPI is another global wire service, which reaches most markets throughout the nation and world. Since 1907, United Press International (UPI) has been a leading provider of critical information to media outlets, businesses, governments, and researchers worldwide. Covering a wide range of topics, UPI's journalists provide in-depth reporting of major news events and offer unique analysis of global issues affecting business and policy decisions. UPI products include original content in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Headquarters are in Washington, DC, with offices in Hong Kong, London, Santiago, Seoul and Tokyo.
  • Voice of America, expressed interest and will call next week to interview Jack Kyser about the study. We'll follow-up with them. It is one of the world's largest radio networks. Taxpayers support it and VOA broadcasts where they need to broadcast, unlike CNN that broadcasts in English, VOA airs in 65 languages. VOA set up its own radio network during the Iraq War.
  • KFWB 980 News conducted interviews with Jack Kyser on the morning of the event and ran the stories before our news conference. The story was also placed on the KFWB website at: www.kfwb.com. KFWB 980 AM is the number one all news radio station, and has three million listeners during the noon hour. It is owned by Viacom/CBS.
  • KNX News Reporter Todd Lietz attended the news conference and later interviewed Secretary Sunne-Wright McPeak; Jack Kyser and Chris Becker, OnTrac and METROLINK about the study impacts and the stories aired on the KNX drive afternoon news shows. He was so delighted to have so many different stories he said he planned on producing some weekend features, too for KNX. "
  • KABC 790 AM aired newswire stories on its morning drive newscasts on the day of the event. " KCBS-TV Ch. 2/KCAL TV-Ch.9 sent a photographer to the news conference, capture Secretary Sunne-Wright McPeak; Jack Kyser and Chris Becker's comments and split for the wildfires coverage. We are ordering any TV clips from the stations.
  • KNBC-TV (NBC owned & operated) published the story on their website and ran our information on the on the air. Even though they had confirmed attendance breaking news on wildfires prevented them from sending a crew over.

·     Additional Minority Media interest included:

  • LA Opinion Business Reporter Yolanda Arenales attended and used our photos. The story was published the next day. It was also placed on the LA Opinion homepage the day after the event. It is the most influential Spanish paper. "
  • Korean News, reporter Alan Lee attended and also requested images MAYO photographed at the news conference for story. (Cir.2 million)
  • Chinese Daily News (World Journal) sent a reporter to cover the N.C.
  • US Japan Weekly (might do the story later)
  • Sing Tao newspapers (LA), Ltd. Also attended the news conference
  • The China Press (Nancy U)
  • L.A. Web Inc, (Asian Publications)
  • Chinese L.A. Daily News and Zhong Guo Daily News
