RE:     “2010-2010 LAEDC Mid-Year Economic Forecast Update and Industry Outlook”

Below is a summary of the various media outreach activities MAYO Communications conducted to promote the “2010-2011 LAEDC Mid-Year Economic Forecast Update and Industry Outlook” and event at the LA Marriott in downtown LA July 21, 2010. 15 working members of the press turned out for the event. Several media calls surfaced on the day of the event and at least three TV stations produced more stories Friday.

 

 

Media coverage included:

  

TELEVISION:

·        KNBC-TV News – interviewed Nancy Sidhu and Jack Kyser and ran the Forecast story on the evening newscasts of the embargoed event focusing on the tourism, technology and Hollywood angle. It was a long series of stories.

·        CNN Network Local Edition– CNN Entertainment News interviewed Jack Kyser in studio on the Economic Forecast. Aired Top/Bottom of hour Headline News on Charter Cable in SoCal.

·        KABC-TV –Interviewed Jack Kyser at the event, and ran several stories mid-morning morning, noon and in the evening newscasts focusing on Hollywood, Tourism and International Trade industries. The stories also air on the morning show.

·        KNBC-TV New Conference-  interviewed Jack Kyser on the economy and teased the Mid Year Forecast three days before the event on Wed. KNBC-TV New Conference public affairs program has a good following, Sundays. Stories aired on Today In LA.

·        KTLA-TV broadcast live and ran a huge pkg and bits during the morning show and 10 PM newscast. The Forecast results started as early as 6:00 AM and air broadcasts through the three hour morning show, and on the 10 PM newscast, the number 1 morning newscast in LA.

·        KTTV-TV Fox News and UPN TV 13 News sent a crew to interview Jack Kyser and Dr. Nancy Sidhu for their mid-day newscasts and was broadcasted on several primetime and morning news programs.

·        KCBS-TV/KCAL-TV news covered the event and ran several stories during their early morning shows and on their mid-day newscasts and posted the stories on their websites.

 

  RADIO

  • Westwood One sent a reporter – who interviewed both Jack Kyser and Nancy Sidhu at length about several issues of the Forecast at the LA Marriott. The stories aired on all the ABC radio station affiliates in California and nationally. Westwood One is one of the nation’s largest providers of network radio programming. Westwood One serves more than 5,000 radio and 170 TV stations in America, including WOR, NY and KABC 790 AM, Los Angeles.  This the first time the national network has covered LAEDC Forecast.

 

  • KNX News Host Frank Mottek moderated the Panel, Mottek interviewed guests of the panel Forecast event that aired it on that Wednesday the day of the event, and for the KNX Business Hour, which is a huge business audience estimated at 1.5 million listeners during drive time afternoons. The stories aired all afternoon during regular newscasts, too, and the next morning. The Interviews were also recorded as Podcasts on the website and aired repeatedly over the weekend during newscasts. The story and event was posted on the KNX website. (total exposure 13.5 million potential listeners) KNX began airing stories at 6:00 A.M. and throughout the morning.

 

  • KFWB 980 Newstalk conducted interviews with Jack Kyser for stories that ran on the drive time morning and afternoon newscasts on the event day. The story was also placed on the KFWB website at: www.kfwb.com. KFWB 980 AM is the KNX sister station, and has three million listeners during the noon hour. It is also owned by Viacom/CBS. www.kfwb.com

 

  • KFI news interviewed Jack Kyser live at the event just before he had to speak and aired the stories all day. KFI is the West Coast largest talk station with hundreds of affiliates in the West. 50,000 watt talk format station is the most powerful radio station west of the Mississippi. (www.KFI.com)  

 

  • KPCC 89.3 FM News sent a reporter and Interviewed Jack Kyser and Nancy Sidhu about the study and aired stories in the afternoon and next day morning. KPCC is the flagship station of Southern California Public Radio. It airs all of the signature public radio news and talk programs, along with locally produced ones and has a good following. www.kpcc.org.


   
WIRE SERVICES:


  • Associated Press  Business editors were out of town or on vacation, however they called back, expressed interest in doing a story later with the facts from the 96 page study. AP is still reviewing forecast story to determined coverage (maybe this week) MAYO was asked to check back. www.AP.org
  • United Press International - rans bits and pieces of the forecast highlighting the Hollywood TV/Film production angles. www.UPI.com
  • Reuters Wire Service - interview Jack Kyser before and after the Economic Forecast and honored the embargo running stats without mentioning the study, and later run more data provide by MAYO Communications.. www.Reuters.com
  • City News Wire Services published the advisories, news release and other facts and info from the forecast several times for TV, radio and newspaper members. They also placed the event on the CNS budget one week in advance.

   NEWSPAPERS / TRADES:

  • Los Angeles Times – interviewed Nancy Sidhu and Jack Kyser prior to the event for a front page story on the Business section of the paper, which was published the morning of the event.   Story was also posted Online on the event day. Circ.: 773,884
  • Los Angeles Daily News conducted interviews with Jack Kyser and the LAEDC staff to write an advanced front page Daily News story. It was published in several places in the Los Angeles newspaper group papers. Los Angeles Newspaper Group also did a separate story that ran in the member papers in SGV and Online. Circ.:178404
  • Orange County Register produced advanced interviews for an embargoed story in the business section after reviewing the Forecast and talking to LAEDC. It appeared on the morning of the embargo. The Orange County Register is the largest of 28 daily newspapers operated by Freedom Communications, Inc. The Register also publishes 23 weekly newspapers, including the Spanish-language newspaper, Excelsior, three magazines, and myOC.com, the local Orange County internet Web portal.  Orange County Register Circ.: 303,418
  • California Apparel News could not attend this year, however interviewed LAEDC and published story. Writer Deborah Belgum interview Jack Kyser and panelists. It was also posted on its website. Circ.:11642
  • LA Business Journal ran two stories and posted the embargoed Forecast story on its website breaking news daily. The weekly has a circulation ranges from 20 – 50K mostly business executives and business readership.
  • SFV Business Journal - the San Fernando Valley Business Journal – interviewed LAEDC and published the story in the SFV and posted the forecast Online.
  • Hollywood Reporter grabbed early LAEDC interviews and published the story Online and in the magazine focusing on the entertainment, TV and film production highlights on embargo day.. It was also shared with its various national and international Online publications. Reuters picked up the story and carried again over its financial wire services globally. The Hollywood Reporter is one of the top publications entertainment industry executives live by. Circ. 24203.
  • Daily Variety produced story with advance interviews that were published on the day of the event and also focused on the jobs rise this year and in 2011 in Hollywood, along with Tourism.
  • Women’s Wear Daily- performed interviews with LAEDC and the story is pending. The fashion issue focuses on any aspect of the apparel and accessories markets, including ready-to-wear, market overviews, fashion trends, retailing updates and business issues. Women's Wear Daily is available Online at http://www.wwd.com  Circ. 86,884
  • BusinessLife Magazine – The Editor John Krikorian attended and conducted interviews and said he will be publishing the story and photos of the Forecast event in the next edition of the magazine. Cir: 104,129
  • Ventura County Star interviewed LAEDC and published materials sent, after MAYO locked and loaded the interviews. Ventura County Star daily newspaper is printed mornings, Saturday and Sunday. Circulation: 94,665. Sunday: 102,821.
  • San Gabriel Valley Tribune’s published the story on the morning of the release. SGV belongs to the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. Circ.: 48835
  • Antelope Valley Press editor attended and interviewed LAEDC panelists at the event and published the story and posted it Online. Circ.:34916
  • Long Beach Press Telegram – Also published the Forecast story 7-21-09. Cir. 50001
  • Whittier Daily News – published a Forecast story focus on the tourism, trade and jobs angle. Whittier Daily news is a Los Angeles Newspaper Group Member.  6,423
  • Pasadena Star News – Published an embargoed story on July 22nd on the front page of the business section and on the morning of the release. The Star belongs to the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. Circ.: 48835
  • San Bernadino Sun   Writer interview Nancy Sidhu and published the story on the day of the event.
  •   Glendale News Press  interviewed LAEDC panelists  at the event, and published story.
    The Glendale News-Press is a daily newspaper that covers the Glendale, La Crescenta and Montrose areas. It has the largest circulation of any local publication. The paper is a member of Times Community News and is delivered in the Los Angeles Times and is also available for free at select news racks through the city. Estimated 73,000 readership.
  • The Daily Inland Bulletin interviewed Nancy Sidhu, incorporating the LAEDC’s Forecast story in its local economy. It was also published on its web site.
  • Riverside Press Newspaper writer interviewed LAEDC and published a story on the day of the embargo. Daing back to 1878, P.E. covers the Inland Empire in southern California. With daily circulation of 122,691, Riverside Press-Enterprise is one of the largest circulation newspapers in the USA.
  • Daily Breeze interviewed LAEDC on the Forecast and event and published the story on the front page of the paper July 21, 2010. Cir: 65,750. Daily Breeze is a daily newspaper published for residents of Torrance, CA. The newspaper covers local news, sports and weather. Daily Breeze is available Online at www.dailybreeze.com.

 

 Multi-Cultural Press




  • LA Opinion, Business Reporter published a story on the Forecast in the nation’s most influential Spanish newspaper. Circulation is 30,000 in Los Angeles Metro area, 100K+ nationally counting its website and distribution
  • China Daily News Reporter  sent a writer and interviewed Jack Kyser for an international story of trade, tourism and tech impact on China and SoCal. Published on several of www.chinaview.cn sites and wire service Xinhua members. Circulation is in the millions globally.
  • Sing Tao Newspapers (LA), Ltd. also called to publish an embargoed story for its publication which has a circulation of 30,000+ and is owned by Sing Tao - newspaper in Hong Kong, China at MondoTimes.com.
  • Korean Daily News – Interviewed LAEDC for an embargo story to be published on the day of the event focusing on Trade and Tourism. Circ. 2 million+.
